Reflecting on our recent summit themed around 'Community,' I’m compelled to explore what 'community' truly means, especially in how it intertwines with both our work and personal lives. At Voltage Control, where our focus lies in leadership development, innovation, and facilitation mastery, the notion of community is a cornerstone of our ethos and practice.
The Essence of Community
For me, community signifies a deep sense of belonging and connection. It's about bringing people together who share common interests, values, or goals. Communities are the bedrock for support, learning, and driving change. In the corporate sphere, this is visible in teams, departments, or entire organizations collaborating toward shared objectives.
Community in the Workplace
Creating a sense of community within the workplace is more important now than ever before. Research has shown that employees who feel a strong sense of belonging are more engaged, productive, and loyal. A study by BetterUp highlighted that companies with high levels of belonging experienced a 56% increase in job performance, a 50% reduction in turnover risk, and a 75% decrease in sick days.
Community Beyond Work
But community goes beyond our professional boundaries. It encompasses the neighborhoods we reside in, the social circles we engage with, and the global networks we're part of. Community provides emotional support, boosts our well-being, and offers avenues for personal growth and development.
During our recent summit, we delved into various aspects of community. The shared insights and experiences underscored the diverse interpretations and the paramount importance of community in our lives. This summit was more than just an event; it was a reflection of our dedication to cultivating and nurturing communities.
